MODERNO KIDS JEEP WRANGLER RAPTOR
Kid Fun Factor Meter: 4 starsModerno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor
Parent Value Meter: 3 stars
Overall Ranking: 3.5 stars
Price: $389-$399

INTRODUCTION

My first impression of the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler was not the best.  Now keep in mind, I had already purchased 2 Peg Perego John Deere Tractors and in my opinion they rank amongst the top, if not the top, when it comes to electric cars for kids.

We ordered the Jeep from Amazon.com for two reasons; 1)we get free shipping because we have Amazon Prime account(insert link to Amazon Prime review), and 2)because Amazon.com usually has the lowest prices.

It came in a plain looking box.  There was no picture on the box at all like there had been for the Peg Perego John Deere Tractors we had ordered a year ago.Moderno Kids Shipping BoxIMG_2006

So from the get go I was a little concerned.  I have read in some reviews that the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor “was the most powerful kids ride on cars on the market today.”  By first appearances, it didn’t feel that way.

PROS/CONS

Pros

  • Has a remote control for parents
  • Has upgraded leather seats for padding
  • Has a seat belt
  • Has tons of cool upgrades like, horn, MP3 player and LED headlights, I’m not gonna lie, it looks pretty cool
  • Customer Service

Cons

  • Instrucions are horrible
  • I didn’t know if I had all the parts
  • The Assembly Video was too fast and outdated
  • Took me 3 hours to assemble
  • I can’t find replacment parts anywhere on the web!

Who is The Jeep Wrangler Raptor For?

I specifically bought the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor for my youngest son Connor.  I say specifically because Connor has Down(can do a link to Mandy’s Blog here) Syndrome and requires a little more safety, but he still wants to be out there riding around with his big bro Hunter too.(To read more about our family click here.)( a link to Mandy’s blog here or just back to our about us page)

We bought the Jeep for two main reasons: 1) It had both remote control, which we are using now because he is younger, and manual control, which allows him to operate it himself, so he can grow into it as he grows older. 2) The second reason we bought it was because it had a belt strap.  This is also needed for Connor, especially at his current age, 2 years old, it keeps him strapped in.

That is why we bought it.  Now that we have it, use it, and know how it runs and operates, what I also like is that it starts off slow, then picks up speed versus a quick take off which would scare him or possibly hurt him.

If you are looking for a safety first type of electric car for you kid or a beginner car then this is the right car for you.

If you are looking for a rugged, fast, can go through all types of terrain, and can take a beating type of vehicle, then the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor is not for you.  For that you really should look at the Peg Perego John Deere Tractor Line up.

What type of Customer Support Should I expect from Moderno Kids?

After purchasing the Jeep Wrangler from Amazon, my wife recieves an email, that doesn’t make me feel comfortable about our purchase, see email below:

Moderno Kids Customer Support Email

I’m sure you can imagine, at this point, I was not feeling very comfortable with my purchase.  Even in the email they point out the video is for an older model.  It took me 3 hours to put together.

The email they sent did provide a so called “customer support” number, but when I called it was a direct number to a guy named Serge.  He didn’t even answer the phone saying something like, “Moderno Kids, how can I help you?”

He just said, “This is Serge.” lol, seriously.  I was the one who had to say, “Ummmmm, is this the number to the Moderno Kids Customer Support?”  He then answered yes and we continued.  Not at all what I would call customer friendly.

Now in their defense and his, he was very, very knowledgable in the assembly process and was able to answer my questions, both times I called, very quickly and resolved my problem.

Price

$389.99 – The cheapest price I found was at Amazon.com(which is usually the case)

In Conclusion

I did purchase the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler because it had a remote control that a parent can operate to drive their kid around.  It does serve it’s purpose, but I don’t feel it is worth the price I paid.

I don’t have the same warm and fuzzy feeling I had, and continue to have, when I purchased the Peg Perego Tractor with Trailer, and the Peg Perego Front Loader with Trailer.

Unless you have a specific need for a remote controlled electric car for kids, or need a very slow starting take off, for safety reasons, then I don’t recommend the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor for you and your family.

If you have any other questions or comments on the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor, or if you have first hand knowledge of other remote controlled electric cars for kids, then please, leave a comment below, it is greatly appreciated.

Jack, I am glad you liked my article and the way I write. When I write, I really want people to feel like they are almost sitting in front of me, talking face to face. I just try to be honest and tell it like it is. If I really liked something, I share that, and say why I like it. If I didn’t like something, I share that, and say why I didn’t like something. I appreciate you passing this on to your cousin and anyone else that crosses your mind when it comes to electric cars for kids.

I do recommend taking a look at the Peg Perego brand, in my opinion, they are top of the line. And if you don’t need a remote control, the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor With Trailer, is hard to beat.

Thx again for commenting and sharing this with others! 🙂

Ah to be a kid again. Toys nowadays are so much cooler. Our niece’s son is 4 years old and loves everything and anything to do with tractors trucks etc. They recently bought him some type of motorized vehicle but I am not sure what is was. I do know that he really likes it and has lots of fun driving it.

We live in the country and have a big tractor and 2 lawn tractors and he says he is practicing on his so he can drive our big tractor soon. Kids you gotta love them!

Although you may prefer the John Deere I think it is good that the Moderno has the remote for the parents. This allows kids that may not be quite ready for the other car to still be able to join in the fun.

Maureen thx for commenting and I couldn’t agree with you more….to be a kid again! lol That is half the reason I love this site, is because it allows me to be a kid again, alongside my own kids as well! 🙂

I would love to own some land and own a couple of tractors myself. Tractors, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, cranes, you name it, my son’s love it! 🙂

The main reason my wife and I purchased the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler, was because it did have a remote control. My youngest son, Connor, has down syndrome, and even though he just turned two this past September, he is not quite ready to drive himself yet….but he also has big brother , Hunter who is 4, that he sees drving the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor With Trailer, ALL THE TIME. So ofcourse Connor wants to get out there with him.

That is what made us search for a remote control version. And don’t get me wrong, the Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler, has already provided lots of fun for Connor and the rest of the family, but I still prefer the overall quality and customer experience I get when I buy from Peg Perego.

But Peg Perego didn’t have a remote control option so we had to go with someone else. It is a good buy, like you said, if you are looking for the remote control option becuase of specific needs within the family.

      Again, thx for commenting.

  4. Sammi

Hi, My little boy would love this jeep! He’s nearly 3 and has asked for an electric motorbike for christmas – he’d be overjoyed with this jeep. I agree, it does seem a bit pricey and I’d feel the same as you when it doesn’t seem to even come from a proper company. I understand the brown box for delivery reasons but there should be the proper box inside – not great customer service either! I don’t think I’d be buying this one. Sammi

    • Jason

I agree with you on this Sammi. If you have no need for a remote control electric car for you little boy, then I wouldn’t recommend this one either. Don’t get me wrong, my youngest son Connor, who just turned two loves it, but he actually loves it more when his big brother, Hunter, drives him around in it versus him sitting in it by himself and my driving him around with the remote control! lol Go figure.

If you are specifically looking for a Jeep, then I would look at the Peg Perego brand or the Power Wheels brand. they both have Jeeps as well(not remote control) but both of those companies are top notch and offer great customer support and quality products.

Even though, tractors might not be your son’s thing, I would still encourage you to read my review on the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor With Trailer Review. We have purchased and owned 5 different electric cars for kids, and so far, this one continues to be our best value so far……I love it, my kids love it, it’s a win, win.

If you decide to purchase a Jeep from one of the brands I mentioned above, please come back and let us know your experience with it, it is greatly appreciated.

  5. Since you own one I was wondering if you might take some photos to compare. I have a Peg Perego Gaucho Grande. I have to say this looks a lot almost identical to it but slight differences. I am a member of modifiedpowerwheels.com a community dedicated to upgrading our kids ride ons. Your welcome to check us out we do infact have a r/c section. But to get to my point … I’m wanting to know if you can move the r/c controls and soft start over to the more rugged peg platform. I hope to hear from you soon please email me.

RoadmonkeyTJ, hey thanks for reaching out. I would be glad to take some pics but I have already gotten rid of my Moderno Kids Jeep Wrangler Raptor. It didn’t even last me a full year…I was/am very disappointed and will NOT buy the Moderno brand again!

I checked out your community website. Thx for sharing by the way, but I am not a handy man, much less, a guy who will modify the vehicles I purchase, by any means. I have a friend that modified his son’s 6v battery electric car to a 12v, but that is something, I won’t do, for fear of messing the vehicle up! lol

Thx again for sharing and best of luck to you.

Purchased above jeep for granddaughter. Problem is switch on dash, forward makes it go in reverse. Reverse makes it go forward. Can anyone help?

    • Jason

Gary, I am with you. I was excited when I first bought the Moderno Jeep Wrangler, I was really exctied because it was remote control and and my youngest son needed that.

But what I have found, is that it started having problems…and yes with the electrical stuff. Now mine didn’t do what you mentioned, but the horn and music stopped working, the lights stopped coming on. To make a long story short, it didn’t even last a year.

I literally just got rid of mine about a week ago. I gave it away for FREE, mentioning that it needed a real handy man to get it working again…someone picked it up, great for them, but that’s not me, and that’s not what I bought it for.

I bought it thinking it would last like my Peg Peregos or my Power Wheels that I have owned for over 3 and 4 years. Unfortunately it didn’t, and I will be updating my post mentioning that I do not recommend that Moderno brand.
